Our staff psychologists and counselors regularly attend seminars and conferences to further their professional development and keep them abreast of advances in their field.
Carolyn Guerra Burns, Psy.D. is a Clinical Psychologist and an Illinois Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Burns has been in practice with Newsome and Associates, Ltd. since 2002 and has been the Clinical Director since 2005. Her area of specialization is the treatment of adults afflicted by a wide-range of psychiatric diagnoses, most notable PTSD, Impulse-Control Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders and Psychotic Disorders. Dr. Burns also has specific training in interpersonal psychology, dealing with relationship issues affecting couples and families. Dr. Burns utilizes an eclectic treatment modality, i.e. Interpersonal, Self-Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral and Individual Coaching therapeutic interventions. Interventions are assessed on an individual basis, focusing on the needs of the client.
Specific areas of interest include
the holistic approach of Mind, Body and Spirit, depression, the spectrum of anxiety disorders and impulse control disorders. Dr. Burns also specializes in family and couple interpersonal relationships, assisting them in the development of effective listening and communication skills. Dr. Burns has extensive experience in working with couples adjusting to life stage developmental issues such as empty nest syndrome, thriving in retirement and the preservation of the elderly. Dr. Burns is currently pursuing specialization training in health psychology as it relates to stress induced disease and the immune system.
Ann M. LaFrance, Psy.D. HSPP is an Illinois Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Dr. LaFrance comes to us from the California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University, Sacramento, CA where she trained in the practitioner-scholar model. In addition to her PsyD, she holds a BS in Education from the University of MI, Ann Arbor and two Master's Degrees (Guidance and Counseling, and Psychology). A disabled American veteran, Dr. LaFrance is a member of the Star Behavioral Health Registry of Indiana. This cadre of trauma specialists was formed as a joint venture between the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University and the military's Center for Deployment Psychology. Its purpose is to provide specialized psychological services to all veterans, particularly to members of the Indiana National Guard and their families, as they cope with post-deployment issues related to their service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Specific areas of interest and practice include
(1) existential/spiritual and end-of-life issues and

(2) teen and adult trauma survivors: sexual assault, domestic violence and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Originally trained in the Humanistic/Rogerian model of psychotherapy, Dr. LaFrance now practices primarily from an interpersonal perspective, applying the best research-based practices in modern psychology to her clients' presenting issues. Dr. LaFrance is also a trained EMDR practitioner.

Katie B. Dimperio, M.A. is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been a staff therapist at Newsome & Associates, Ltd. since 2002. Katie’s primary area of expertise is Marital and Couples Therapy. She has extensive experience with couples of diverse age groups and cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Prior to joining Newsome & Associates, Ltd., Katie served as the Director of Support Services for Resolve of Illinois, specializing in infertility, education, advocacy and support for women and couples. She also served as a member of the Mediation Task Force for the Village of Orland Park and the Orland Park Police Department.

Specific areas of interest include
working with couples facing issues of trust, infidelity or abuse in the relationship; assisting couples who have grown apart to rebuild and heal their relationship through improving communication skills, developing new ways of interacting and learning effective conflict resolution techniques. Although the goal of couples’ counseling is to repair a broken relationship, Katie also works with divorcing couples seeking to minimize negativity for the sake of their children. Katie is well versed in the holistic approach of Mind, Body and Spirit as it relates to the immune system and stress-related illnesses, as well as depression and anxiety.
